Previously, the ground floor was used for the logistic import and export of tobacco leaves and other products from distant regions. The office building is now a national monument, part of Unesco World Heritage, and is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the Amsterdam canals. The building has recently been renovated but all monumental parts have remained intact. These are mainly found in the central hall, the atrium and the staircase and these reflect the rich history of the building.
